Callaway's Chrome Tour family introduces a "Tour Fast Mantle," a layer beneath the cover engineered roughly 16% stiffer than before, acting like a firmer spring at impact to add ball speed. Bridgestone's Tour B series introduces VeloSurge technology, with claims of extra ball speed the brand puts as high as 8.7 yards off the tee.

Real engineering, marketing-department numbers
None of this is vapourware — microcoating, mantle stiffness and core construction are genuine, measurable engineering changes, and manufacturers do this kind of R&D every generation. But the yardage and consistency numbers attached to them are lab claims, generated on robots swinging at a specific speed, spin and angle — not a guarantee of what happens with your swing.
