TaylorMade, Callaway and Bridgestone all refreshed their tour ball lines this year - and what's just marketing.
Three major manufacturers have refreshed their flagship tour balls this year, each leading with genuinely new engineering. The technology is real. The yardage claims attached to it are lab numbers, not a promise about your swing.
Three real changes, three different bets
TaylorMade's 2026 TP5 and Tour Response lines lead with a new microcoating process - a more precise paint application designed to stop coating from pooling unevenly across the dimple pattern, which the brand says reduces flight inconsistency at longer distances. Callaway's Chrome Tour family introduces a "Tour Fast Mantle," a layer beneath the cover engineered roughly 16% stiffer than before, acting like a firmer spring at impact to add ball speed. Bridgestone's Tour B series introduces VeloSurge technology, with claims of extra ball speed the brand puts as high as 8.7 yards off the tee.

Real engineering, marketing-department numbers
None of this is vapourware - microcoating, mantle stiffness and core construction are genuine, measurable engineering changes, and manufacturers do this kind of R&D every generation. But the yardage and consistency numbers attached to them are lab claims, generated on robots swinging at a specific speed, spin and angle - not a guarantee of what happens with your swing. Worth trying, not worth assuming
If you're due a ball change this season, these are legitimate options worth putting in the rotation.
