MyGolfSpy Declined to Name One 2026 Ball Winner — Its High-Flight Distance Pick Still Spun 5,693 rpm From 35 Yards

The 2026 picks are split by construction, flight and spin instead of ranked, which is closer to how a fitting works than a leaderboard is.

MyGolfSpy has published its top picks from the 2026 Golf Ball Test, and for the first time the list arrives without a single overall winner. The site said trying to force this year's results into one overall winner, or a few broad categories, did not tell the whole story, so the picks were broken down by construction and then by flight and spin profile.

No leaderboard, because the leaderboard kept changing

The reasoning is worth reading closely. MyGolfSpy framed the picks as a starting point based on what a golfer actually needs from a ball, noting that high, mid and low are relative terms and that ball performance can change depending on the club and swing speed. That is not hedging. It is the same finding that keeps surfacing in robot data: a ball's rank is a function of the conditions it was measured under, and a golfer who does not match those conditions inherits a recommendation that was never theirs.

Three balls, three jobs, no honest way to stack them

The Maxfli Tour X LS was named the higher-flight option in the distance urethane category, producing 322.4 yards of total distance at MyGolfSpy's fast driver speed while still generating 5,693 rpm on the 35-yard wedge shot. The Chrome Tour X took the mid-flight, mid-spin slot in the Tour X group, was one of the faster driver balls in the test, and led the 35-yard wedge test with 5,992 rpm. The Tour B X was the lower-flight, higher-spin choice in that same category, one of the longer balls at fast driver speed, and retained almost all of its full wedge spin when wet.

Read those entries as specifications rather than rankings. Distance urethane no longer means surrendering greenside spin outright, and the gap between the top wedge-spin figure and a ball marketed on distance was around 300 rpm here — meaningful, but nothing like the trade-off the category names imply. The more useful question is flight: high, mid or low, and whether you need it down in wind or up to hold a green.

Where KaddieIQ lands on it

We have no ball to sell and no category to defend, which is why this structure suits us. MyGolfSpy's own advice is to treat the picks as a starting point and then return to the data for your specific speed and performance needs — that is a fitting instruction, not a shopping list. BallFIT is free and brand-agnostic for the same reason: the right answer depends on your driver speed, your wedge spin and the flight you need, and a test winner chosen for someone else's swing tells you very little about any of them.

What “Verified Data” means

The figures inside a Verified Data panel are checked against a named, public source — a retail listing, a press release, an independent test — before they are published, and we link to that source directly. They are not the same as a manufacturer’s own performance claims, which we report as claims, in the body text, until an independent test confirms them. If a number carries the badge, you can check it yourself at the source link below the panel; if it doesn’t, treat it as reported rather than verified. KaddieIQ is not paid by any equipment brand and sells no clubs or balls.
