Consistency is a different axis from distance
The four sub-metrics don't move together. Per Today's Golfer, the Pro V1 placed 16th for speed, second for launch, first for spin and first for compression — a mid-pack score in one column and a category win in three others, which is enough to lead the overall ranking. A ball that repeats its spin and compression is not automatically the ball that repeats its speed, and neither figure tells you how far it goes. That matters more than the medal: a single 'most consistent' label collapses four independent measurements into one number, and the underlying columns are where the fitting information actually lives.

The shortlist is not premium-only, and it is robot data
Today's Golfer's consistency shortlist includes four Titleist models alongside entries from Vice, Wilson, Seed, Callaway and Maxfli — a reminder that repeatable manufacturing is not the exclusive property of the most expensive tier. On distance, the same test had the Pro V1 as one of only two three-piece tour-level models beyond 273 yards at 114 mph, and 0.3 yards behind the longest ball at 78 mph. The caveat is the one that applies to every robot test, including the good ones: the machine delivers the same strike every time. It isolates the ball, which is exactly what you want from a lab, and it removes the variability that dominates your own dispersion.
What this changes for your ball choice
Nothing about a consistency ranking tells you which ball suits your delivery. It tells you which balls are built to a tight tolerance — useful, but a manufacturing question, not a fitting one.
